Join CAM for the opening of the short films Tygers (2014) and The Release (2013) by Virginia-based artist and filmmaker Kevin Jerome Everson. On view on the Museum’s Washington Boulevard facade as part of its Street Views series of exterior video works, the films highlight everyday people involved in ordinary activities like practicing football.
In Tygers, members of a high school football team engage in practice drills. By interspersing sequences of controlled movement with pauses, Everson emphasizes the discipline and concentration underlying the athletes’ seemingly mechanical gestures. In The Release, professional dancers enact a classic football gesture as a rhythmic dance. Projected at a massive scale, the films explore the beauty inherent in the subjects’ actions, creating moving portraits that reveal poetry and meaning within the mundane.
Street Views is on view every evening from dusk to midnight, on the Museum’s front facade.
