Chosen by exhibiting artist Marco Rios, Gustave Flaubert’s 1877 novella, A Simple Heart, follows the life of servant girl Félicité and her parrot, Loulou, who is the inspiration for Rios’s work At Loulou’s Door. The discussion will be led by Jennifer Vierrether, instructor of Modern & Classical Languages at Saint Louis University.
Copies of A Simple Heart are available to check out at the Saint Louis Public Library’s Central Library at the Center for the Reader, located on the first floor of the building.
Jennifer Vierrether has worked in education for more than ten years, teaching French at Webster University, Saint Louis University, a local high school as well as conducting private tutoring lessons. She earned a Master of Arts in French Literature from the University of Kansas in 2008. Vierrether has studied in Geneva, Switzerland; taught English courses in Lannemezan, France; and has led educational tours throughout various French regions. She is passionate about literacy education and fostering engaging, diverse forums for conversation and learning. Two of her favorite French authors are Marguerite Duras and Marie Darrieussecq.
