Join Associate Curator Kelly Shindler and Stefanie Kirkland, Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design Director of Exhibitions & Artists-In-Residence Program, on a tour through Arlene Shechet: Urgent Matter, and participate in an open discussion on the work within the larger context of ceramics and contemporary abstract sculpture.
Stefanie Jacobson Kirkland is Director of Exhibitions and Artists-In-Residence Programs at Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design in St. Louis, where she has worked since 2005. As Director of Exhibitions Kirkland manages Craft Alliance’s exhibition programming, including the initial concept of exhibitions, in-house curation, budget planning, marketing, publication design, and the finalization of installation. She serves as liaison with exhibiting artists and organizes corresponding events. As Director of the Artists-In-Residence Program, Kirkland recruits artists, markets the program, coordinates events and artist opportunities, and acts as mentor, helping the artists navigate their careers. Kirkland received an MFA in painting from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco and an undergraduate degree in surface pattern design and art history from Syracuse University in New York. Through her training as both a fiber artist and painter, Kirkland’s work incorporates aspects from each media, focusing on enhancing the subject matter through mixed media techniques. Kirkland’s work has been shown nationally and is in various private collections.
