Tony Renner

None; using alternate space Filled this in last year and had my home address published. Not again! (view map)

Amy Bautz of St. Louis University says:

St. Louis-based artist, Tony Renner, takes a rough, abstracted approach to painting in form while following a refined formula for content and production. Reflecting his life-long interest in music, he improvises and riffs on other artists, on musicians, and on poetry. Working in a smaller scale, Renner's work is personal and universal at once. While the format is one that would fit in your hands, the brush strokes and images seem unbound. His color palette is subdued at times, and aggressive at others, simplified somewhat to reflect perhaps type on a page or notes on a sheet.

A self taught artist, Craig Downs has spent the past ten years creating a bold unique style to call his own. His art has been shown at venues across the country, he has sold over 700 paintings, most recently he placed in the top 3 at both the 2010 2011 Taste of St. Louis.

His whimsical creations play with color rhythm in such a way that they seem to dance upon the canvas. The allegorical style he has created is not to be taken in at a glance; rather it is most fully enjoyed when taken in at a serene pace, for what first may appear as simplicity belies a hidden depth.
