On the occasion of The Light Project at the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, and in collaboration with the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, New York artist Spencer Finch presents a plein air ice cream stand.

Over the course of six weeks this fall, Grand Center pedestrians and museum visitors can enjoy free ice cream that has been mixed and frozen onsite by a mobile soft-serve machine powered entirely by solar panels. Mounted on the facade of the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, the solar panels are suspended above the ice cream cone vendor, who greets visitors at the museum's entrance each afternoon. Offering what the artist calls an “edible monochrome” and a landscape painting, the ice cream evokes a St. Louis sunset with the shifting colors Finch observed from the Contemporary’s rooftop.

Spencer Finch: Sunset (St. Louis, July 31, 2008) is curated by Laura Fried, Assistant Curator at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis. Sunset (St. Louis, July 31, 2008) is part of The Light Project, a series of outdoor light installations presented by The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts in conjunction with its current exhibition Dan Flavin: Constructed Light. The Light Project is headed by the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, in collaboration with contemporary art curators from the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, the Saint Louis Art Museum, and White Flag Projects.
