Internships

CAM offers hands-on internships for up to 15 university students and professionals seeking career development. As St. Louis’s premier museum dedicated to contemporary art, the Museum offers a variety of unique opportunities for prospective interns in the following areas: Curatorial, Education, Fundraising, Interpretation, PR & Marketing, Registrar, and Visitor Services.

Each internship is designed to challenge the candidate in his/her particular area(s) of interest through dedicated research and practice. Interns also lend support to the daily needs and greater goals of the organization. Participation in this program is on a volunteer basis, and great attention is paid to ensure a high quality experience for all interns. For those seeking academic credit, the necessary documents must be supplied prior to the start of the internship term. Each participant receives one-on-one mentoring, unrivaled access to the greater arts community, and preparation for the next step in their career.

Applications for the spring 2017 term are due by Wednesday, December 7 for priority selection.

Professional Development

One unique facet of a CAM internship is the professional development workshops and group tours offered each internship term. CAM interns will have the opportunity to interact with top arts professionals in the region, visit innovative non-profits and arts spaces, and hear from CAM staff on topics such as resume-writing and networking.

Schedule
The program generally follows the university semester schedule, while the exact terms are considered case-by-case and determined by the intern, his or her supervisor, and the program manager. All internships are a minimum of ten hours per week during the regular work week (Monday–Friday 9 am–5 pm). Interns must also be available for at least three evening or weekend events during their term.

Skills
Intern candidates must possess excellent oral and written communications skills, the ability to work on Mac and PC platforms with standard office applications/programs, familiarity with the area to which they apply, and the necessary temperament to work cooperatively with other team members in a creative, fast-paced environment.
