DESCRIPTION:Spend an evening experiencing connections between opera and the visual arts with the program series “Artwork and Arias\,” presented by CAM and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. In this curated program of arias\, the powerful voice of OTSL’s Gerdine Young Artist Emilie Kealani and accompanying piano by Nicholas Roehler resonate with themes and emotions also explored by visual artists in the exhibition Like Water. \nSchedule \n\n5:00–9:00 pm: Drinks and specialty cocktails available for purchase as a part of CAM’s First Friday: Spring Social  \n7:00 pm: Guided exhibition tour of Like Water\n8:00 pm: Performance begins\n\nRegistration is encouraged; please click here to sign up. \nTo request an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter for this event\, please contact programs@camstl.org with as much prior notice possible to ensure availability. \nMusical Program \n\n“Mutya Ng Pasig” (The Muse of the Pasig River) by Nicanor Abelardo\n“Il barcaiolo” by Gaetano Donizetti\n“Vive amour qui reve” from Cherubin by Jules Massenet\n“L’heure exquise” by Reynaldo Hahn\n“Softly the Summer” by Richard Hundley\n“Freundliche Vision” by Richard Strauss\n“The Silver Aria” from The Ballad of Baby Doe by Douglas Moore\n“From the Ashes She Became” by Melissa Dunphy\n“The Pinays Within Us” by Jonny Incipido\n\n  \n\nAbout the artists \nEmilie Kealani.\nFilipino-American soprano Emilie Kealani originated the role of Mia in Family Style at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis and joins OTSL’s 50th anniversary season as a Gerdine Young Artist. Praised by The Wall Street Journal for her “delicate” and “ideal” portrayal in La Calisto\, Kealani made her international debut with Staatsoper Stuttgart in Jenůfa. A proud Filipina with Hawaiian heritage\, she incorporates Kundimans (Tagalog love songs) into her performances and curates KAPWA\, a multi-disciplinary event celebrating Asian and AAPI art. Emilie grew up performing with San Francisco Arts Education Project and Bay Area Vocal Academy\, holds a Bachelor of Music degree from The Manhattan School of Music and is a current Master of Music candidate at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music.  \n  \nNicholas Roehler.\nNicholas Roehler\, pianist and coach\, joins Opera Theatre this season as music staff for Die Fledermaus and Don Pasquale\, following his work on Tosca and Susannah at OTSL in 2023. He has most recently served as music staff at LA Opera\, where he was also a member of the Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program. He had the distinct pleasure of preparing The Brightness of Light with Renée Fleming and Rod Gilfrey under the baton of Gemma New. He has been coach and pianist at the Seattle Opera\, Berkshire Opera Festival\, Bronx Opera\, University of Michigan Opera\, and Opera in the Ozarks. Nicholas holds a Bachelor of Music from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam\, a Master of Music and Specialist in Music from the University of Michigan\, and is also an alumnus of the Merola Opera Program.
