SUMMARY:First Friday: New Year’s Reset
DESCRIPTION:Start the new year at CAM with art\, music\, culture\, and a little self-care! Join artist and community caretaker glyneisha for an experience centering reflection\, release\, and the act of envisioning in celebration of her exhibition Shadows of Her Windows: Dreams of the Black Interior\, presented by Teen Museum Studies. \nGuided by the spirit and energy of the third-quarter moon\, visitors will usher out the old year by cleansing inner landscapes through art-making activities\, a meditative practice led by multidisciplinary artist and art educator Simiya Sudduth\, and interactive reflection stations that offer space to gain clarity. This event is a great opportunity to begin the new year rested and restored! \nSchedule \n\n5:00 pm Drinks and specialty cocktails available for purchase from AO&Co\n6:00–8:00 pm Drop-in art-making with glyneisha; complimentary light bites available\n7:00 pm Guided Meditation with Simiya Sudduth\n\n  \n\nAbout the artists \nglyneisha (she/her) is a poly-disciplinary artist\, educator\, and community caretaker whose practice includes organizing workshops and spaces for communal reflection\, and examining the public and private experiential nature of the Black Interior as a source of refuge\, healing\, and imagination. Her exhibition\, Shadows of Her Windows: Dreams of the Black Interior\, is on view in the Education Galleries at CAM through February 9\, 2025. glyneisha is a 2024 Futures Fund Grantee through The Luminary in St. Louis. She is a 2022 Cultural Producers Grantee\, a 2020 Charlotte Street Award Fellow\, and a recipient of the 2020 Bryon C. Cohen Award through Charlotte Street Foundation in Kansas City\, MO. She has exhibited\, presented\, and been in residence at Art Omi\, Bemis Center for Contemporary Art\, Juanita J. Craft Residency\, The Nerman Museum for Contemporary Art\, SCAD Museum of Art\, Springfield Museum of Art\, and more. \nSimiya Sudduth (they/them\, she/her) is a Black and Indigenous mother\, multidisciplinary artist and art educator. They maintain a fluid creative practice that primarily manifests in the realm of public art\, and social practice. Their work explores the intersections of healing\, ecology\, social justice\, and spirituality. Simiya’s expansive creative practice ranges from digital illustration\, designing and painting murals to experimental sound healing performances.
