SUMMARY:For Freedoms Sign-Making
DESCRIPTION:Join New Art in the Neighborhood (NAN) students for an afternoon of sign-making\, free and open to the public in conjunction with For Freedoms: The 50 State Initiative. For Freedoms\, the largest public art initiative in US history\, was co-founded by artists Hank Willis Thomas and Eric Gottesman to engage artists and arts institutions more fully in public life. The sign-making relates to the “Four Freedoms” articulated by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1941\, freedom of speech\, freedom of religion\, freedom from fear\, and freedom from want. The lawn signs will be designed with the open phrases “Freedom of ______” and “Freedom from ______\,” with participants encouraged to complete the phrases as they choose. NAN students will facilitate the activity in the museum courtyard or performance space\, depending on the weather\, with materials supplied by CAM. In addition\, For Freedoms lawn signs are available to visitors at the front desk during all museum hours.
