CLAUDIA COMTE

Working across sculpture, painting, installation, and performance, Claudia Comte injects play and insouciance into the rigorous geometries of modernist traditions. Past projects by the artist include an outdoor fun fair for Art Basel, and a solo exhibition of block-striped partitions and paintings, incorporating Comte’s idiosyncratic chainsaw sculptures. Comte has long been interested in the wall painting as a site of intermedia transformation. Comte’s Curves and Zig Zags (2015) installed in the Palm Desert for Desert X, superimposed graphic painting onto a moiréd three-dimensional structure. For the CAM Project Wall, Comte installs a vinyl print of intricate lines that appear to undergo liquefaction—a stringent graphic study coming undone before the eyes.

Claudia Comte is organized for the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis by Lisa Melandri, Executive Director.
