The Collectibles features artist-designed products. Organized in conjunction with the exhibition Contemporary Masterworks: St. Louis Collects, this companion exhibition focuses on objects conceptualized by some of the world’s most famous contemporary artists. The exhibition reflects the infinite commercial possibilities for artist designed marketable fare: action figures, salt and pepper shakers, soccer balls, pillows, skateboards, lamps, and dessert sets, among others. Looking at companies like Parkett, Cerealart, and Robot Love, The Collectibles presents both limited and un-limited editions from across the globe.
Featured artists include established creators such as Pipilotti Rist, Takashi Murakami, Marcel Dzama, Laurie Simmons, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Tobias Wong, and Yayoi Kusama while also introducing an emerging generation of artists. The exhibition explores the novelty of the newly novel, and feature work from companies and collaborations that blur the boundaries between high and low culture.
