Opportunities
LEAP: LEAP Middle School Initiative is a ten-week program offered on Thursdays from 4:30–6:00 pm in the Fall and Spring for students in grades 6–8. Selected LEAP RTAs are responsible for developing and implementing a course curriculum that exposes students to a particular contemporary art practice or medium. Compensation: $950 per semester.
New Art in the Neighborhood (NAN): NAN is a twelve-week program offered on Saturdays from noon–4:00 pm in the fall and spring for students in grades 9–12. Selected NAN RTAs will collaborate with CAM’s Teen and Adult Program Manager to collaborate on co-designing the curriculum and co-teaching. Compensation: $2,000 per semester.
ArtReach: ArtReach RTAs bring contemporary art into selected schools. Opportunities include multipart Intensive workshops (3-6 weeks), as well as quarter-long (8-10 weeks) or semester-long (16-20 weeks) residencies at Vashon and Sumner High Schools. Selected ArtReach RTAs work closely with the School and Community Program Manager to determine project scopes. Compensation is calculated based on the confirmed teaching load, ranging from $450 for Intensives to up to $2,450 for Partnerships. *Note: For the 2023-24 school year, RTAs will create projects that responds the thematic curriculum “Social Justice & Healing”

CAM commits to creating environments that are equitable, just, and accessible without discrimination toward a person’s race, gender identity, class, sexuality, ethnicity, religion, age, ability, and national origin. RTAs are expected to contribute to the advancement of equitable, inclusive practices.
Requirements
- Able to teach on-site at school and/or museum
- Develop curriculum that will enable the class(es) to acquire the knowledge, skills, and technique required to complete the proposed projects
- Expose the students to the artistic techniques and creative processes of practicing artists
- Give students a platform for self-discovery and expression, increasing student visual literacy and their ability to articulate ideas
- Be a positive role model to students, CAM staff, and fellow RTAs
- Respond to time-sensitive email correspondence throughout the program and exhibition organization periods
- Document student attendance and evaluations
- Communicate with museum staff on curriculum and material needs in a timely manner
- Help/direct/be present for final installation, opening night, and other culminating events (Details dependent upon project)
Qualifications
- Skills, training, and/or professional experience in the visual arts
- Experience working or volunteering with young people, especially middle and/or high school aged students
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive, antiracist education. Teaching Artists with experience connecting with racially diverse and predominantly African American student populations are encouraged to apply.
