Between Beach Ball and Rubber Raft

Between Beach Ball and Rubber Raft is a group exhibition examining transcendental strategies in the face of contemporary banality. Pursuing marginal ideas and margin as an ideal, this show confronts static dread and the burden of existence. Photographic documentation, sculpture, and installation all become vapor; dichotomies of body and object, presence and memory, in turn, reveal a definition of gas, and maybe even poetry.

This exhibition features sculpture by New York-based artist Paul Lee, who contorts the materiality and intention of everyday objects for melancholic ends. In a lifelong artistic work, Brooklyn-based artist BREYER P-ORRIDGE applies the cut-ups of mentor William Burroughs to their very own body, seeking to exit one container for a “third gender.” Alongside, Belgian artist Steve Van den Bosch’s videos and installations allude to an absent narrator in a present space.

Between Beach Ball and Rubber Raft is curated by William Gass.
