This annual exhibition presents work made by artists in CAM’s Teen Studio Art programs—LEAP Middle School Initiative and New Art in the Neighborhood. Each program is taught by members of our Resident Teaching Artist cohort and provides participants the opportunity to learn new skills and creative expression. Programs are held at our Learning & Engagement Studio, tuition-free with all project materials provided.
LEAP is an after school program for middle school-aged artists (grades 6–8) who are interested in an in-depth exploration of contemporary art practices and mediums. This year, Resident Teaching Artists Simiya Sudduth, Misty Long-Donoho, and Anna Katz guided LEAP students in creating collaborative murals, ice-dyed textiles, abstract collage, and ceramic projects. Through these works, young artists examined individual voices within collective creation, material processes shaped by chance, and the ecological and communal impact of outdoor spaces.
Since 1993, NAN has provided high school students (grades 9-12) of varying skill levels and backgrounds with an experimental and supportive environment for making art. This program combines project-based learning with open studio exploration, where Resident Teaching Artists introduce new art practices while also responding to the curiosities of the students. This year, NAN students worked with Resident Teaching Artists Dee Levang, Adrienne Outlaw, and Ahlam Khamis to create encaustic prints, recycled artworks, and installations exploring mythology.
Teen Studio Art Exhibition 2026 is organized for the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis by Brandon Barr, Teen and Adult Programs Manager.
