In Memory of Sequoia Whitfield

The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis is deeply saddened by the death of Sequoia Whitfield, who was killed in a shooting on August 12, 2020. Sequoia, 19, was a student at Vashon High School and participated in the school’s art education partnership with CAM. A mask he made in this art class is part of the exhibition ArtReach: Vashon High School. He is remembered as a kind, hard-working young man who enjoyed expressing himself creatively.

Our sympathies go out to Sequoia’s family and friends in this moment of great loss.

We encourage everyone to learn more about ending gun violence by visiting Everytown for Gun Safety.
